XXVII. National Training of Melters and Masters in the Field of Electrical Steel and Ductile Iron

From September 10 to 12, 2025, the XXVII. National Training of Melters and Masters in the Field of Electrical Steel and Ductile Iron took place in Sázava. The traditional professional meeting offered a varied program of lectures, discussions and practical demonstrations, supplemented by an excursion to the operations of the Metallurgy Division of ŽĎAS, a.s. After the ceremonial opening of the training on Wednesday evening, a contribution was presented by Col. v.v. Ing. František Valdštýn, who in his lecture Strategic Steel emphasized the role of steel in modern industry and national security.
The program of the second day was dedicated to professional performances by Czech and Slovak experts from practice and academia. Participants listened to presentations focused on the structure of metals and alloys, the production and properties of cast iron, thermal analysis and the basics of foundry technology. The discussion focused on casting defects caused by oxygen activity, comparison of melting aggregates, use of ceramic materials and composition and properties of slag in steel production.
The second part of the educational program focused on the process phases of smelting and primary metallurgy, raw material base, sorting and recycling, safe use of oxygen in metallurgical operations, modern equipment design and casting technology. The lectures concluded with the issue of
secondary and tertiary metallurgy of steel and alloys, which sparked a lively discussion among the participants.
After a demanding day, there was an evaluation of the training, the announcement of the results of the professional competition and a social evening, which allowed for an informal exchange of experiences and the establishment of new contacts. The final day was devoted to an excursion to the ŽĎAS company, where the participants had the opportunity to get acquainted with current technologies and production processes in metallurgy operations.
A total of 14 professional lectures and more than 70 participants from almost 20 companies and two universities once again confirmed the important role of training in the field of periodic education of workers in the metallurgical industry and foundry. In addition to the high professional level of the lectures, it also provided a valuable space for sharing experiences and strengthening professional and personal ties between experts.
